The owner Julieta Estrela was a fado singer in her youth. Nowadays she receives guests in her place, cooks portuguese homemade food under the watchful eye of her husband, in the meanwhile correcting her son when he sings a higher note than he should. At the end of the dinner she leaves the kitchen and sings like in her better times.

Our favourite places for FADOS ! This small fado house resides in the old chapel of Dona Rosa Palace – a spectacular room covered with seventeenth century tiles from the floor to the ceiling. On Mondays and Wednesdays sings Carminho – the new revelation of traditional fado. Food is OK but if you don’t have dinner there it’s difficult to have a seat to listen to fado. It’s one of the few places where the fado begins after dinner, around 11:30. You can go at this time for a drink and squeeze into a corner to enjoy the melancholic voice of the guitar.
